09/11/2010: Map Limit on BNET 2.0
Increased
Good news overall, but my question is still
why is there a limit in the first place. Maybe money? Bandwith? I dont
know.
Blizzard Quote:
As part of our
ongoing efforts to foster a productive and happy StarCraft
II mapmaking community, we recently asked players to share
their thoughts and ideas on how the custom map system might
be improved. Some mapmakers noted that the current limits
placed on custom map publishing felt too restrictive and, as
a result, made their mapmaking experience less enjoyable.
We've taken this feedback to heart and increased custom map
upload limits in two ways. Players are now provided with a
total of 10 custom map slots and up to 50 mbs of total map
storage space. Ultimately, we want players to be able to
share more maps with the community, and we feel these
changes will supply mapmakers the additional freedom they
need to better flex their creative muscles.
We'll be carefully monitoring how this additional storage is
used by players and, as always, will continue to seek your
feedback for how we may further improve the Battle.net
mapmaking and publishing experience.
09/01/2010: Patch 1.1 to be released
soon!
Blizzard has announced
intentions to release Patch 1.1 for StarCraft 2 in the coming week.
Unofficially we’re expecting the release to be around September 1st.
Among the redacted list of changes are:
Reaper build time increase from 40 to
45 seconds
Bunker build time increase from 30 to 35 seconds
Siege Tank damage in Siege mode reduced to 35 (+15 vs. Armored;
upgrade +3, ++2 vs Armored)
Battlecruisers ATG damage decreased from 10 to 8
Ultralisk damage reduced to 15 (+20 vs. Armored)
Zealot build time increased from 33 to 38 seconds
Warp Gate cooldown time increased from 23 to 28 seconds
To be honest our concerns with these
changes lie mostly in the fact that it’s a bit late to be messing
with unit and build timings. Players are already adapting to these
and messing with the time rather than the cost and damage numbers is
unnecessarily chaotic. Stay away from changing the build times, and
focus more on nerfing damage itself. Secondarily you won’t be
reducing the number of units on the field which leads to more
interesting games.
Conversely, we do feel that the Warp
Gate cooldown is a good move. It is far too easy for Protoss to
replenish their forces instantly when nearing the food cap in late
game.
08/20/2010: Southeast Asia Starcraft
II: Wings of Liberty 2010 Invitational Tournament
Blizzard Entertainment has announced the
Starcraft II: Wings of Liberty 2010 Invitational Tournament for
Southeast Asia, Australia, and New Zealand will take place on
September 10.
The top 16 ranked players on
Battle.net will be invited to the event to clash for gore and glory
against each other and for cash prize for the winner and the
finalists. On top of that, the first and second winners will be
invited to BlizzCon 2010 in Anaheim, California.
Blizzard Quote:
Based on
their regional ranking and performance on Battle.net,
sixteen of the top StarCraft II players from Southeast Asia,
Australia, and New Zealand will be selected to take part in
the region’s first StarCraft II online tournament.
The regional matches
commence on September 10, and selected players will be
seeded randomly in a sixteen-player, double elimination
bracket. The four finalists will face off on September 12,
2010.
Tournament finalists
will be awarded cash prizes, with the first-place winner
taking home the $3,000 USD grand prize.
08/07/2010: First Two Weeks in Review
With StarCraft 2: Wings of Liberty
experiencing phenomenal growth numbers after going live just ten
days ago, Blizzard’s ability to keep the servers live and available
worldwide for each of the localized versions and various licensing
plans is nothing short of a phenomenal achievement.
That being said, Blizzard has already
released two StarCraft 2 patches and is keeping an updated
list of known issues here. Up until now, none of the documented
issues, fixes and patches have affected unit abilities or
multiplayer gameplay. However, playing a 2v2 with a flickering
screen and scrambled voice communication is clearly not the optimal
gaming experience.
